Dog Mom Trick #5: LRS Fluids

One unique thing that I do to help my dog stay hydrated & prep him for travel is LRS fluids.

What is LRS (Lactated Ringers Solution)?

“LRS works to help return the proper balance of electrolytes to your pet’s body. It contains many of the same electrolytes that blood produces naturally, like sodium lactate, potassium chloride, and water. LRS is commonly used as a routine rehydrating and maintenance solution”

The exact fluids we do are called LRS *Parenteral fluid. This was recommended by our vet because Hudson easily gets dehydrated. Whenever we have travels coming up, we always take Hudson about 1 day prior to our flight to see if he needs any fluids & if so, make sure he has time to go to the bathroom!

🚨Make sure your dog stays hydrated in warm weather! If you feel your dog might be dehydrated ask your vet about LRS fluids!

There are a lot of different ways to tell if your dog is dehydrated! Here are a few things to look for👇🏻

  • Loss of appetite

  • Vomiting

  • Lethargic

  • Panting

  • Dry nose

  • Dry sticky gums
